Fort Ward is the 5th largest fort that protected the port of Alexandria and Washington. It was named after James Ward, the first Naval officer who died in the civil war. Visit the museum in the Union Army Headquarters building. See an orientation film. See the permanent exhibits:

  • The Art of the Artilleryman
  • Medical Care for the Civil War Soldier
